Talk: How has GDPR changed the data landscape

Post the anticipation, hype and unprecedented EU debate, lobbying drafting and re-drafting, GDPR is finally in place. Given four months have now passed since the law was enforced, are there any visible impacts, or is it too soon to tell? Have 4% fines become a reality, or do they still remain a threat? How are companies experiencing the practical, operational aspects of GDPR? This talk briefly reviews recent events post GDPR enforcement and considers what might happen in the near term from here.

Biography:
Seamus Galvin has over 15 years market research and technology domain experience across a broad range of sectors, including  present focus in cyber security and data protection, and prior experience in areas such as data intelligence, music and media technology, engineering systems, automotive and mobile consumer technologies among others.

Seamus also leads innovation activities around various new product and service offerings developed by BSI's Cyber Security and Information Resilience consulting division, promoting thought leadership around new trends and activities in the space. He is also Product Manager of BSI PACE (Privacy Assessment Coverage Engine), a SaaS solution supporting operational GDPR compliance assessments.

Prior to BSI, Seamus has previous worked in a number of technology SME and research organisations including Espion Group, Millward Brown, and several technology start-ups. Seamus has a BSc and MSc (1st) in Computer Science from University of Limerick and a Graduate Diploma in Technology Product Management from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
